Insecurities From Around Us (Imran)

It’s a common practice for today’s generation to flip through fashion or health magazines or even scrolling through picture-based social media such as Instagram. What they are doing is actually exposing themselves to composed pictures and so called “flawless” posts and publishing that depict the perfect body image. Many teenagers wish they would have the “perfect” and ideal look until they would go through extreme measures such as refraining themselves from eating for a shortcut to their dreams. That is insecurities working at its worst when teenagers would go up to those extreme measures.
Teenagers tend to have those insecurities as they live in a society that takes image and class to a whole new level. Every teenager will try to be better than one another in a way competing just to see who’s at the top. A person who does not meet the societal standard will usually be left out and ignored. Nobody wants to end up there. That is why their insecurities are taking up a big part of their life as that is how their society works.
Living on a day to day basis, everywhere we look there is always some form of imagery such as posters billboard advertising prints, advertisement. All of those usually depict a person at its finest. Setting up the standard to that level which is not even achievable unless through thorough Photoshop just to curate the ideal look. But consumers tend to fall into the presented imagery.
In order to alleviate this problem, every teenager should have a mind-set that we are perfect to who we are. Well that comes to a certain extent, they should see it at a health point of view. They can only say that they are perfect if they’re perfect in health. Leaving teenager with the mind-set that they are perfect the way they are really just a way for teenager suffering from obesity to be proud of who they are. Which rationally isn’t really good for them.

In conclusion, being insecure with our looks is normal in the perspective where we humans always have social anxiety. But our insecurities shouldn’t lead to the bad of us such as going though extreme measure. It should just be a rational guideline in order for us to be better and one that leads to a healthier lifestyle.
